Hallway

The rugs in the living room and hallway were selected by Aamer in Pakistan and custom overdyed.

A vintage rug sits with a Koti Sofa by Hem, reproduction Eames moulded plywood chairs, and a vintage travertine table from Midcentury LA. The credenza is also vintage, with the artwork above it by Maja Dlogolecki.

The fireplace was cleaned and painted. An original wall of wood paneling was preserved and extended through the home. “We wanted one full wall of the paneling to connect front of the house to the back,” say the designers. In the dining room, the Log table by Hem is surrounded by Cover chairs by Muuto. The chandelier is Brendan Ravenhill.

The white paint color used throughout is Benjamin Moore "Simply White."

Both the cabinets and wall panelling are done in birch plywood.

The birch millwork includes a special cubby for Ryan and Rory's cat's litterbox—you'll spot the access hole on the far left.

The powder room features Elin Midnight Blue wallpaper by Sandberg.

The built-in cabinets at the entry include special storage for Ryan and Rory's running shoes. (They're both long-distance runners.)

“I like that you can feel the old shapes of the house,” says Lanigan, who intentionally let the trim and fireplace “run into” the green box. Dark wood detailing on the floor reveals the outlines of the former rooms of the home.

The pantry also operates as a spot to whip up cocktails.

The green box is lined with tambor strips to give it texture and interest.

Open tread on the stairs lets light from the large window pass through.

A bathroom connects the children’s bedrooms. The bedrooms are in the front of the home, and the common rooms are in back. The layout “lends itself to fully utilizing the yard,” says Danielle. “And when we have guests in the ADU, we have the privacy of going to our room in the front of the house and closing the door.”
